We would like to invite you to participate in a unique opportunity to help The Laura Jepsen Institute in the effort to preserve Lichgate cottage and gardens and to realize a dream that began more than Fifteen-years-ago. We do so now because we believe your thoughts and values to be consistent with Lichgate’s philosophy and mission in providing an essential green space in a densely populated urban area and to help create an awareness for ecological concerns.
The Lichgate on High Road preservation project is a unique endeavor and is completely volunteer-based. Many hours have gone into making the cottage and grounds ready for the community to enjoy. Lichgate is being restored and the surrounding acreage cultivated into a community garden and park. Many members of the community have stepped forward to help in all aspects of restoring and maintaining the home. Damayan and the Tallahassee Garden Club designed and maintain the beautiful butterfly and organic vegetable gardens. Numerous Eagle Scouts have constructed features to enhance the grounds, and Florida State University students volunteer by helping with landscape and cottage chores. Lichgate has been recognized as a model of local volunteerism and cooperation.
The Laura Jepsen Institute, a 501c 3, was formed to save the property from development and preserve it as a historic property, (placed on the National registry of Historic Places in 2006), garden and sanctuary. As an organization that exists completely through volunteer efforts and donations, it is essential that the community be made aware that only with their help will this unique oasis survive for the enjoyment of future generations.
